Certified Death Certificate

Death certificate are filed in the Register of Deeds office of the county where the death occurred, and in the county of residence.
A certified copy of a death certificate issued by the Marinette County Register of Deeds Office will have both a state and a county raised seal, will show the signature of the Marinette County Registrar, and will be printed on security paper. A certified copy may be
required to settle an estate or to claim insurance benefits.
State law restricts who may obtain a
certified copy of a death certificate. A certified copy can only be issued to the following people:

. An immediate family member (spouse, child, parent, sibling, or grandparent of the decedent)
. A person authorized in writing by one of the above. (The written authorization must accompany the
request and the relationship of the authorizing party to the decedent must be clearly explained.),
.
A person who can demonstrate that the death certificate is required to protect a personal or
property right.

If you do not meet one of the above criteria, you cannot receive a
certified copy of the death certificate.

If you're entitled to receive a certified copy you may apply in person at the address below between 8:00 AM through 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. The fees, cash,check or money orders, are $20.00 for the first certificate and $3.00 for each additional certificate. Proof of ID is required.
