Mission Statement and What We Do
The mission of the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) is to protect the community from harmful and possibly life-threatening effects of a hazardous materials release by developing and implementing policies and procedures for complying with the Emergency Planning and Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), Title III of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986 (SARA Title III), Wisconsin Statutes Chapter 323, and Marinette County Ordinance No. 90-91-27. For more information on EPCRA go to "Links" on the right.
The LEPC also gathers information to assist in the development of off-site plans for facilities required to report under SARA Title III. In 2012, 68 facilities submitted a Tier II Chemical Inventory Form. Of these, 21 facilities are required to have an off-site plan for emergency situations involving extremely hazardous substances. Information is also incorporated into the Countywide Hazardous Materials Strategic Plan.
LEPC meetings are quarterly and are held in conformance with the Open Meetings Laws. They are normally scheduled for the fourth Monday in January, April, July and October at 3:00 p.m. in the Marinette County Law Enforcement Center.
Marinette County Level B Hazardous Materials Team
The City of Marinette Fire Department is also the County Level B Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Team. The HazMat Team also serves as a Chemical Assessment Team (CAT) in surrounding counties for the Appleton Level A HazMat Team.
INVENTORY FEE STATEMENT AND TIER II REPORTING FORMS MUST NOW BE FILED ON-LINE USING "WHOPRS" (WI HAZMAT ON-LINE PLANNING AND REPORTING SYSTEM). FACILITIES SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM THE STATE WITH INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO ACCESS THIS SYSTEM. |
